LEED is driving the green building industry
LEED, or Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, is transforming the way we think about how our buildings and communities are designed, constructed, maintained and operated across the globe. Comprehensive and flexible, LEED is a green building tool that addresses the entire building lifecycle recognizing best-in-class building strategies.
At its core, LEED is a program that provides third-party verification of green buildings. Building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. Prerequisites and credits differ for each rating system, and teams choose the best fit for the project. Learn more about LEED, the facts, and the LEED rating systems.
Our sophisticated sorting system uses a process of separating the debris to be recycled into two lines and:
- Soil is sifted out for landfill cover
- Clean wood is processed and converted into colored mulch
- Metals are removed, separated by grade and sent to smelting plants
- Concrete is removed, crushed, and made into road base
- Cardboard is separated, baled and exported to paper mills
More importantly, this multi-process procedure can be done with just one dumpster.
We process the materials on site at our facility and provide you with a breakdown of materials by yard and total by tons. We can even bring back recycled products to your site to further enhance your LEED project points.

Recycling Construction and Building Demolition Materials
A Statewide Waste Characterization Study done in 2008 found that construction and building demolition materials accounted for 29 percent of the waste stream in the country. Many of these materials can be reused or recycled, which can extend our supply of natural resources on Suffolk County and save money in the process.
Building demolition often generates large amounts of materials that can be reused or recycled including:
• Wood | • Drywall |
• Metals | • Brick |
• Plastic | • Paper |
• Cardboard | • Concrete |
Unfortunately, a lot of these reusable materials end up in landfills, particularly wood. By reducing this waste it can save us money, conserve energy and resources, and reduce air, soil, and water pollution.
Our sister company, Excel Demolition enables us to offer customers construction and demolition waste materials disposal at very competitive rates. Excel’s highly productive two-line sorting system can process over 800 tons of demolition material per day, and recycle over 80% of our waste stream.
In addition to diverting the waste materials from our landfills and passing the savings along to our customers, we also produce high quality reusable products including colored mulches for landscaping and RCA (recycled concrete aggregate) for road construction.
With the innovative recycling equipment available today we can reuse many materials that would have ended up in a landfill in the past. Recycling of demolition materials is one large factor that can help keep our environment, safe, clean, and thriving.
